For a complete WOW professions and gold making guide, check out Ultimate's Professions Guide.Wow professions guide: Warcraft WOW Alchemy guide FAQWhat is WOW Blacksmithing?Blacksmithing is a manufacturing WOW profession, allowing your character to create powerful metal gear (Plate Gear, Metal Weapons) from metal bars provided by Miners.What is WOW Blacksmithing good for?Leveling Blacksmithing to max level will consume a lot of gold if you're buying the mats, or consume a lot of time if you're mining the metals yourself (with Mining) but once leveled to maximum, you can use Blacksmithing to make gold by manufacturing and selling your products, or simply save yourself the heavy costs of buying the products yourself from other players.However, most of the manufactured Gear and Weapons provided by Blacksmithing are not as powerful as gear and weapons dropped by end game raiding bosses, so the Items are usually easily sold only to new characters gearing up for raiding, or players without a strong raiding guild, making WOW Blacksmithing less of a money maker then other professions. What unique benefits (buffs) does WOW Blacksmithing provide Herbalists?WOW Blacksmithing allows your character to socket additional 2 gems into your gear, allowing you to further customize your character with your favorite stats.Who is WOW Blacksmithing advised for? What should be my other profession?1. Level 80 players interested in any of the unique features Blacksmithing provide listed above:If you are just starting your character, it is advised to pick a gathering profession instead of Blacksmithing until you reach level 80, and only then drop it and level Blacksmithing instead.
Your second profession should be Mining if you're leveling this character. Save all the mats in the bank, and use them to level your Blacksmithing once you hit 80.
