Halfus Tactics Basics:

Being the first Boss in one of the first Raid Instances of Cataclysm, the following Halfus Tactics guide is pretty simple.

Your primary objective will be handling his adds because killing them puts a debuf on Halfus that increases your damage done to him by 50% -100%, so that's a massive DPS increase.

This fight includes a lot of unavoidable damage to the melee, so healers should be prepared for that.

Halfus main abilities:

Fireballs and Fire breathes:
These will actually be cast by his Drake. Heal threw them, nothing special here.

Malevolent strikes: Halfus applies a stacking Debuff of -5% healing received to any target he strikes.

Bind a Dragon:
This is the main add Halfus is going to summon. He actually has 4 dragons, and each week he will bind and control a different one (and only one) at random.

Each Dragon add will use special abilities of its own, as well as unlock a unique ability to for Halfus to use

The adds and their abilities are:

Slate dragon:
Paralysis aura: This will occasionally freeze the whole raid for 15 seconds, so use as many over time heals as you can. It will also debuf Halfus, so you will not die if healed correctly.
Fire Barrage: will do high damage to anyone near the dragon, so healers should expect massive damage on the melee group.

Nether Drake:
50% less hit raid wide as well as reduce attack speed by 50% and reduces damage done by 25%.
Frenzy: Halfus gains +50% attack speed

Time Warden:
Roots the whole raid in place. Escaping it will just make you rooted again right away.

Storm rider:
Raid wide interrupts every 0.5 sec, so you can only use instant cast spells. Incredibly annoying.
Effect on Halfus: Shadow aura- raid wait AOE with a knock back effect.

Besides the Dragons, Halfus will summon Whelp Adds:
Nothing special, regular pack of adds, but killing them will place a 100% damage buff on your attack to Halfus.

Whirlwind:
When Halfus reaches 30% health he will start whirlwinding

Halfus Tactics step by step:

Halfus Tactics step 1:
Have Tank engage Halfus.

Halfus Tactics step 2:
You have a few good seconds of DPS until first add is activated, use them wisely, DPS him, and be ready to switch to the dragon add ASAP

Halfus Tactics step 3:

Tanks will get a stacking healing debuf (cast by Halfus) so you will need to rotate them when it gets overwhelming.
Halfus is Tauntable.

Halfus Tactics step 4:
Switch all DPS to the dragon add and kill it ASAP. Pay attention to the various special abilities they have listed in the Abilities section.

Halfus Tactics step 5:
When it dies Halfus will start casting slower so you will be able to occasionally interrupt his attacks.

Halfus Tactics step 6:
The whelps will spawn, have an OT pull them boss and AOE them all down. Kill them all and enjoy you 100% damage increase buff.

Halfus Tactics step 7:
This is a good time to use bloodlust and offensive CD, before he drops to 10% health.

Halfus Tactics step 8:
Halfus drop down to 30% and starts spinning. It hits hard, so be prepared for massive healing on the melee, that can't really afford to stop DPS so you won't end up activating the enrage timer.

Halfus Tactics step 9:
Melee should use their good judgment though, and use pots/ defensive CDs or even get away for a few seconds at a time to help the healers cope with the damage.
